This semester, we will focus on the following three main areas:
Here is what you can expect to do in your first class: 1. Introduction and "ice-breaker" activities. (Using Kagan strategies) (Goal setting: What do you hope to achieve in Talented Music class this year?) 2. Music note value review a) making notes out of pipe cleaners (whole, half, quarter, eighth. 5 lines and spaces too) b) Story of "The Lonely Eighth Note" c) creating and clapping rhythms 3. Drum Circle Activities (each student will pick a drum/percussion instrument. Djembe, cajon, bodhran, agogo bells, claves, shaker, tambourine, etc.) a) warm - ups: "Let's all play our drum", "pieces of 8", stomp lead b) Rumble: plain rumble (dynamics), rumble wave, rumble circles c) groove to recording (tr. 1 of Drum Circle CD) d) rhythm together (clap and play). solo during claps. (Each student creates their own.)

Ms. Tully
Shea Tully is a graduate of LSU. (BM, BME, and MM) She plays the oboe in the Baton Rouge Symphony. Ms. Tully has lived in England, Ireland, and Wales and has traveled extensively in Western Europe. She incorporates her experience of world music into her teaching. Archives
